The cognitive test battery in BASE contains 14 tests measuring five intellectual abilities (perceptual speed, reasoning, memory, knowledge, fluency). At Time 5 8 out of the original 14 tests were included in the assessment.

Fluency was measured by two tests:
a) Words beginning with "S" (Lindenberger, Mayer, & Kliegl, 1993): Participants had to name as many different words beginning with the letter S as possible within 90 seconds.
b) Categories - Names of Animals (Lindenberger et al., 1993): Participants had to name as many different animals as possible within 90 seconds.
The test scores for (a) and (b) correspond to the number of correct responses.

In both tests participants made errors of the same types: They named a) morphological variants, b) made wrong-category responses, c) unnoticed repetitions, d) noticed repetitions, e) there were disruptions, and f) questions were asked. There are constructs concerning the frequency of each type of error.
For more detailed information about the procedures, see Lindenberger et al. (1993)
or the "Intelligenz und Kognition" documentation at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development.

Raw Constructs Created in BASE

Note:
In accordance with the design, names for Time 1 have the prefix z1 or c1, names for Time 3 have the prefix z3 or c3,
names for Time 4 have the prefix z4 or c4, names for Time 5 have the prefix z5 or c5, and names
for Time 6 have the prefix z6 or c6.
Prefix z indicates that data were administered in the intake assessment (EE),
c that data were administrated in the intensive protocol (IP).
Names for T7 have the prefix c7 although the data were collected in the intake assessment.
